The Impact of COVID-19 on Low- and Moderate- Income Housing Providers

The pandemic has had a devastating impact on renters and housing providers alike. Americans have faced and continue facing high unemployment and economic hardship. When households cannot afford to pay rent, housing providers forgo expected rental income which is used to cover property and operations expenses. The negative economic impact on housing providers affects individuals and families who rent, as well as homeowners, service providers, and the surrounding communities. This report analyzes the economic impact of COVID-19 on housing providers and the subsequent impact on renters and surrounding communities in the short and long term.
